What is learner autonomy?

The key theme of this coference can be traced back to 1981 conference presentation by Henri Holec.  Holec broadly defined learner autonomy as 'the ability to take charge of one's learning'. 

Key characteristics include self awarneness, critical reflection and taking responsibility for learning.

  1. As long as education in some countries is exam-based and most classes are teacher-centered, learner autonomy cannot be achieved
